Connect your agent account

Babbit's agents run on an account you bring: a Claude or ChatGPT subscription, or an API key. The credential goes into Babbit's vault, never into a URL, your browser or an API answer.

Before you begin

You need one of these:

HarnessSubscriptionAPI key
Claude CodeClaude Pro or MaxAn Anthropic API key
CodexChatGPT Plus or ProAn OpenAI API key

You connect accounts to yourself, not to a project. Each project then uses one of your connections.

Connect an account

You see Connect your agent right after your first sign-in. To open it later, open your profile menu and choose Manage my connections.

  1. Choose Claude Code or Codex.
  2. Choose Subscription (the default) or API key.
  3. Follow the steps for your choice in the sections below.
  4. Select the new connection.
  5. Click Continue.

Claude subscription

  1. On your computer, in a terminal where Claude Code is installed, run:
    Shell
    claude setup-token
  2. Sign in when Claude Code asks, then copy the token it prints.
  3. Paste the token into Babbit and save it.

Codex subscription

  1. Click Connect. Babbit starts the official Codex sign-in in a disposable machine and shows a short device code.
  2. Click Copy code & open ChatGPT.
  3. Paste the code on the ChatGPT page and approve.

Babbit updates by itself when you approve. If the sign-in fails or you close the page, it offers to try again; Cancel sign-in ends the pending sign-in.

API key

Paste the key into the password field and save it.

How Babbit handles your credential

  • The credential is stored encrypted in Babbit's vault.
  • Only the runs of projects bound to the connection use it.
  • Connecting runs no model prompt.

When a run uses Claude Code or Codex, the harness needs the credential to call its vendor. Babbit puts it only into that one run's workspace, passes it to the harness by name, and lets that workspace reach only the vendor's own hosts. Transcripts are scrubbed of it like any other secret. See Security guarantees.

Disconnect an account

  1. Open Manage my connections.
  2. Click Disconnect on the connection, then confirm.

Disconnecting stops future use right away. It can't take back a credential a running workspace already holds; that run keeps it until it ends. To be sure, also revoke the token with Anthropic or OpenAI.

Bind a project to an account

A new project uses the connection you selected when you created it. An owner can switch the project to another connection:

  1. Open the project's Models & providers from your profile menu.
  2. Choose the account the project runs on.

Each harness keeps its own model settings, so switching from Codex to Claude Code and back doesn't lose them. Runs already in progress keep the account they started with.

Choose models and effort

Models & providers has four rows. Each has a model and an effort setting.

RowUsed forAutomatic choice
DefaultsEvery kind of work that doesn't override it.
Initialize profileReading a repository at onboarding.A reasoning model, high effort
Propose changesThe Product agent's brief and proposals.A reasoning model, medium effort
Implement changesThe Code Writing agent's work.A coding model, medium effort

To change them:

  1. Pick a model and an effort for any row. The choices come from what your connected account type can run.
  2. Click Save settings. The new values apply to runs that start after you save.

Leave a row on Automatic to let Babbit choose. Automatic resolves again when each run starts, and shows its current choice beside the label. Provider default lets the harness pick its own effort. To return to Babbit's recommendations, click Use recommended, then Save settings. Discard restores the saved values.

Troubleshoot

What you seeWhat to do
A run stops before its first prompt with a setup reason. The connection is missing or the account check failed. Reconnect it from Manage my connections.
The bell shows a sign-in that expired or a key that stopped working.Click Reconnect. Babbit returns you to the stopped run.
A saved model isn't in the list any more.It stays visible and selected. Choose another if the provider retired it.
The model list fails to load.Click Retry. Your unsaved edits are kept.
